Community Involvement

Through the HBASE, members are able to get involved and give back to the community.

The HBASE has generously offered to assist Ronald McDonald House Charities of South Dakota (RMHCSD) in addressing the need to construct a new Ronald McDonald House® on the Sanford Health campus in close proximity to Sanford Children’s Hospital. Groundbreaking for the new Ronald McDonald House® is scheduled to take place in the spring of 2008. The upcoming construction is the largest community service project ever undertaken by the HBASE. Over the next 15 to 20 months, HBASE will assist RMHCSD in lining up donations for the project along with recruiting qualified volunteers to help with the construction of the house.

Tools for Schools is a program sponsored by the Home Builders Care Foundation created to help local schools improve their building curriculum. The Tools for Schools program strictly donates tools necessary for students to learn hands on craftsmanship in the building industry.

Repair Affair is a one day event in June that allows HBASE members to volunteer their time and expertise to someone in need. Since 1993, more than 120 repair projects have been completed with a total of more than 3,500 man hours from more than 800 HBASE member volunteers. The focus of Repair Affair is on adapting the home for the elderly and/or disabled. Homeowners must complete an application, be at least 65 years old or permanently disabled and meet income guidelines.

Four $500 scholarships are awarded annually to graduating high school students. These annual scholarships were established to benef

it high school graduates who will attend an accredited college, university or technical college and major in a construction-related field.

Scholarship winners must reside within the counties of Lincoln, McCook, Minnehaha or Turner and have applied for acceptance into a college or trade school curriculum within the home building industry or related fields.
