Building a New Ronald McDonald House

Groundbreaking to be in Spring 2008

The Home Builders Association of the Sioux Empire (HBASE) has generously offered to assist Ronald McDonald House Charities of South Dakota (RMHC-SD) in addressing the need to construct a new 18-bedroom, 20,000 sq. ft. Ronald McDonald House® in Sioux Falls, SD on the Sanford Health campus just north of the new Sanford Children’s Hospital.

Groundbreaking for the new Ronald McDonald House is scheduled to take place in April 2008. The upcoming construction is the largest community service project ever undertaken by the HBASE. Over the next 13 to 15 months, HBASE will assist RMHC-SD in lining up donations for the project along with recruiting qualified volunteers to help with the construction of the house.

“We have tremendous leaders within this organization who have made this project a reality,” said Kyle Eberts, 2008 President of the Home Builders Association of the Sioux Empire. “It is a wonderful thing when they know they can rely on the strength of the entire membership to get something of this scope done. It continues to amaze me how much this association has grown over the last 50 years to make something like this happen.”

Ronald McDonald House Charities of South Dakota was founded with a mission to provide aid and support to seriously ill children and their families as they receive treatment at facilities such as Sanford Children’s Hospital. RMHC-SD provides a home a way from home for those families because when children come to Sioux Falls for medical attention, their loved ones prefer to stay nearby. The Ronald McDonald House in Sioux Falls is currently located in the center of the city (2001 S. Norton Avenue), approximately one mile to the Sanford campus. The location for this new house will be approximately one block north of the new Sanford Children’s Hospital. The new home will be also able to house 18 families. The current Ronald McDonald House can only accommodate 9 families.

“We are honored to be a part of this project,” Ray Trankle said, former Vice President of Public Affairs at Sanford Health. “Providing the land for the new Ronald McDonald House is only natural because the families of our patients should be as close to their children as possible. This new house will allow the families to be within walking distance from Sanford Children’s.”

“Ronald McDonald House Charities of SD is honored to be chosen as the beneficiary of HBASE community service project,” said Marsha Frericks, RMHC-SD Executive Director. “This project will allow RMHC-SD to continue their mission to improve the health and well being of children.”
