HOME BUILDERS ASSOCIATION OF THE SIOUX EMPIRE CODE OF ETHICS -

Building is the foundation of strong communities and a cornerstone of the American dream. As professionals in the building industry, we are committed to ensuring that every project, whether residential, commercial, or remodeling, is completed with the highest standards of safety, quality, and craftsmanship. Every structure we create should reflect our dedication to integrity, professionalism, and service, strengthened by the unwavering commitment of builders, associates, and industry partners alike. Together, we uphold the values that sustain our profession and enrich the communities where we live and work.

As a HBASE member, I recognize my responsibility to the Association, the industry, and the community, and therefore pledge to uphold the following Code of Ethics:

TO CONDUCT my business affairs with professionalism and skill.

TO CONTINUALLY improve my knowledge, skills, and business practices to uphold the standards of the industry.

TO PROTECT the consumer by promoting responsible building practices backed by integrity, professionalism, and service.

TO MEET all my financial obligations in a responsible manner.

TO UPHOLD the spirit and intent of all business agreements, treating employees, subcontractors, and suppliers with fairness, professionalism, and integrity.

TO PROMOTE a safe and respectful work environment for all employees, subcontractors, and clients.

TO KEEP informed regarding public policies and other essential information, which affect my business interests and those of the building industry as a whole.

TO COMPLY with the rules and regulations prescribed by law and government agencies for the health, safety, and welfare of the community.

TO SEEK to resolve any disputes in a fair, respectful, and cooperative manner.

TO NOT ATTEMPT to injure, with malicious intent, either directly or indirectly, the professional reputation, business, practice, or employment of another member.

TO NOT ATTEMPT to injure, with malicious intent, either directly or indirectly, the reputation of the Association, or any of its directors, officers or employees.

TO SUPPORT the objectives and mission of the Association, contributing time, expertise, and resources to advance the building industry.

Membership Levels

Builders

Builders are the heart and soul of our association. With over 200 Builder member companies in the association, these businesses are directly involved in building, remodeling or land development. They include small-volume builders, production builders, single family & multi-family builders, light commercial builders, remodelers and land developers. Builder members must provide a copy of either their Sioux Falls contractor’s license or a South Dakota excise tax certificate as a required part of membership.

Associates

With over 550 Associate companies in our membership, these businesses are the subcontractors, service providers and suppliers. Look around any home and see firsthand just how many Associate member companies are needed to build just one house... windows, drywall, electrical, flooring, paint, furniture, landscaping, and so on! Associates also offer products and services to those in the industry such as office supplies, automotive needs, promotional items, employee wellness, bookkeeping, etc.

Affiliates (Builder or Associate level required)

With each Associate and Builder membership, one contact person is included in the membership directory. If additional employees want to be listed in the directory, receive a digital copy of the member newsletter and have access to the member discounts, they can sign up at anytime as Affiliates for only $50/yr. Perfect for sales people, managers, business development staff and more. Click here to complete the Affiliate membership application and then please email it to the staff. To be included in the 2026 printed membership directory, new Affiliates must be signed up and paid for by Oct. 24, 2025.

3-in-1 Membership

Remember, when you join our local association part of your membership dues goes to the South Dakota Home Builders Association in Pierre, SD and another portion to the National Association of Home Builders in Washington DC. That's right, it's a 3-in-1 membership! Within NAHB there are over 600 chapters nationwide and of those, we are proud to say that we're one of the largest HBA's in the country. We currently have over 1,000 members with Builders, Associates and Affiliates! With a membership retention rate between 85-90%, that is proof our membership is dedicated and in it for the long haul since 1956.
